Should we get sore after a workout? NO!
Many of you continue to believe we are supposed to get sore. This is roughly the equivalent of saying “I want beautiful skin so I will cut myself to get it”. Hogwash! The only people who gain from soreness are abusing anabolic steroids.
Arnold told us we tear muscles down and they rebuild bigger and stronger. This is categorically false. We tear muscle. The muscle compartmentalizes the tissue which has been compromised. Cortisol is sent into the area to break tissue down. This is a catabolic, tissue wasting, method. This cannot be anabolic or tissue building. At best, the area becomes swollen, congested, and inflamed. Pumped you say? The pump is a failure of the systems to process the waste material out of the area. This is the same as training to failure. It is training to fail.
Over stretching a muscle causes soreness. Arnold also said that we need to stretch the muscles and make them larger. If stretching could make muscles grow why are Pilates and Yoga people so spindly? Even these people understand that over stretching is a bad thing. Over stretching and tearing muscles are bad things physiologically. Do not invite them. Scar tissue is rough, inflexible, and should not be encouraged to grow. Tear a muscle and you will develop scar tissue.
Stop a set, a workout, a week, a macro cycle, the repetition before you get sore and give yourself the chance to train again soon. This is anabolism. Train frequently and gain frequently. Be an athlete. Do not just look like an athlete. Train for excellence not just the appearance of excellence.
