Body composition
Most people who hire a personal trainer want to lose some
extra body weight. Americans are fat. The personal training community has made
a marketing decision to be extra “lean” or hold a harmfully low level of
adipose tissue (fat). The average man should hold no less than 15% of his
weight as fat. The average woman needs to hold no less than 20% of her weight
as fat. These are physiological facts.
Do you believe a female athlete should have a menstrual
cycle? A woman reaches her first menstrual
cycle when she reaches 12% body fat. This is why girls are reaching that first
cycle earlier and earlier. Because they are fat earlier and earlier. Female
athletes often do not menstruate. This is indicative of ill health. A “lean”
female trainer who has interfered with her menstrual cycle is unhealthy. It
matter not if she wants children or not. Her body is designed to reproduce.
Testosterone burns fat. This is why men typically hold less
fat than women. A woman’s body chemistry is more dependent on fat than a
man’s.
Do some research! Ask a doctor, or a trainer, or another
health professional. Asking any of the above mentioned people alone is asking
for trouble. None of the above should be used as an exclusive resource. Consider
information from one, then another, and another, and come to your own
conclusions. No one will ever know you as well as you do.

The body fat levels recommended by most “fitness
professional” are unhealthy. No one holds 6% body fat. If that was the
measurement after a body composition test there is a lot of intra-muscular fat
in that individual. The systems cannot run on body fat levels below 10% for
long. There are strength tests which show how much muscle someone has. If one
cannot squat double body weight they do not have less than 10% body fat. One
can appear lean and be fat. Intra-muscular fat is what marbles a well-marbled
piece of meat. Once again Americans are fat. Most need to lose fat not weight. The
appearance of low fat does not necessarily specify one as lean.
Get stronger, it is synonymous with getting “lean”.
