Limit strength

Limit strength

Limit strength is our ultimate strength. We do not have any way of measuring limit strength since it is not a willful expression of force production. We train for strength and improve our absolute strength. Powerlifting and worlds strongest man competitions are expressions of this strength.

Absolute strength improvements will improve limit strength (IMO).

We have all heard the stories of people lifting a tractor off of their child after an accident. This is the realization of limit strength. Fred Hatfield, PhD. (Dr. Squat) told us a story of the couch potato muscle fibers. These fibers have a life of one single use in situations like the tractor example. After this single use the proteins are made available for use elsewhere in the system where proteins are needed. After they are used we have a lower limit strength is my addition to this equation.

Absolute strength helps us absorb and create forces in life when the couch potato muscle fibers are not called upon. In a car accident life slows to super-slow-motion. We see everything relevant that is happening. We absorb a force when the car flips. We produce a force so as to unify our body. The forces applied to our frame are distributed over our entire body. Damage is minimal.

On a contrary point. Mike Tyson punches me in the head. I do not have time to unify by body. My head is moved separately from the torso. My brain sloshes inside my skull. I have a concussion. Maybe I even go unconscious. If I had trained high pulls enough my body would have supported my head unconsciously and the likelihood of concussion or unconsciousness is lessened.

Train your body for what you do.

Get stronger!                                                                                                    docsgym@live.com
