FAQ
There are many questions asked of a personal trainer. Here are
a few of the questions I have been asked and the answers I believe should
follow:
· Q: Why do
I need a personal trainer?
o
A: A personal trainer will give you the guidance
you need
to reach your goals much more efficiently.
o
A personal trainer makes certain you learn the
movements quickly.
o
Scheduling an appointment is all a lot of busy
people need to do. It makes them accountable to themselves and their trainer.
o
Results come from work. A personal trainer makes a
client do the work in a reasonable time frame and makes certain the trainee does
not over or under work their bodies.
· Q: What
do I need to do to get a six pack?
o
A: The six pack is a common goal; we want to make
certain the muscles of the midsection are coordinates and balanced in all
efforts.
o
The muscles which create the flat appearance are
on the sides. They are called the external obliques.
o
We need to twist, flex, hold statically, and
extend the midsection to create balanced development.
· Q: How
long will it take for me to lose 20 lbs?
o
A: Firstly, we do not want to lose weight per se.
we want to lose fat.
o
The human body can process out up to 3 lbs of fat
per week. Asking to lose more fat than this is unrealistic.
o
Losing 20 lbs of fat will take most of 7 weeks
assuming nutritional considerations being made.
· Q: I have
had a baby, can I flatten my abs?
o
A: Yes.
o
See the answer for flattening the abs.
· Q: Why do
I need to get stronger?
o
A: We need to make your body stronger and allow
the workloads to be fitting. Strength is the key to all other components of
physical fitness.
o
Everyone has a different definition of strength
and this will remain as long as people do not study sports sciences. Strength as
we are speaking of it is absolute strength. Relative strength, starting
strength, explosive strength and strength endurance are quite different things.
Absolute strength will feed all other types of strength which we practice
according to your goals.
o
To make your body stronger we must do everything
possible. We will practice full body movements and fix weak points with
isolation movements.
· Q: What
do I need to do to tone my…?
o
A: Tone is a simple state of readiness. Toning is
a matter of practicing an appropriately challenging movement until the muscles
involved remain ready for the stimuli we apply.
o
Work the muscles you want to tone and make them
stronger. Strength makes the changes more permanent.
· Q: How do
I shape my glutes?
o
A: Train your hip musculature for extension and
your gluteus maximus will shape up accordingly.
o
Train your hamstrings and glutes together as they
always work together. When there is no added weight the glutes extend the hips.
When we add any significant weight the hamstrings are the primary mover. Whether
the glutes or hamstrings are extending the hips as the primary mover the other
will act as a stabilizer.
· Q: Can
you give me a workout to follow?
o
A: Yes I can, and will, give you a workout to
follow. The workout I give you will be completed on days we do not work
together. The guidance I provide will make your successes more noticeable.
· Q: What
do I need to do to improve my bench press?
o
A: Work your bench press. The bench press has been
a marker for strength for a long time and it is a great measure of one’s upper
body strength. However, if we want to improve one’s overall strength we must
focus on and improve the full body movements such as the snatch, clean and jerk,
clean, jerk, squat, and deadlift chiefly.
· Q: Will I
be able to move like I did when I was younger?
o
A: You will be able to move better than you have
been. If you had continued to move as a child through all of the stages of your
development you could move like a child throughout your lifespan. If you want
to move like you did at thirty, and you are fifty, we can do this. It is more
difficult to regain abilities the longer they are neglected.
o
We can make you move better at any stage in
development. Understanding the movement patterns of our original design is
essential to freedom in movement. This is what personal training is about.
The list of questions goes on infinitely. These are but a few
of the questions I have heard in my thirty years of practice. If you have a
question reach out to me and we can communicate. I will talk about this topic
all day long.
