Take the vacation of your lifetime and get stronger.

Vacation

I hear a description of a vacation. I need a vacation after my vacation. What is your ideal vacation?

I want to take it easy. I want to lift weights. I want to go out to eat. I want to take it easy. Many want to plan every second of every day. That’s cool! If the extent of your planning is to forget about life it’s not for me. Vacation is a great time for reflection, problem solving, and regeneration. Most of this while taking it easy.

Years ago I went to the land of my ancestors, Ireland. We arrive, we drive all day every day, we stop and have meals, and we stop and go to sleep. There was a very exact plan for this vacation. We saw a lot of things “older than Stonehenge”. We did not have a relaxing regeneration of depleted energies. It was exhausting. The people I went with are always tired. They drudge through life exhausted and angry. Have a little fun. Collecting new information is fun, yes. If you act like you are in a race you are not on vacation at all, in my humble opinion.

It is easy to say that lifting weights is not relaxing. It is! There is a natural state of relaxation after exertion. After a rep as well as after a training session. Athletes typically sleep more deeply than un-athletic people. The point is simple. Do what you like on vacation. If the people you are with don’t enjoy the same things as you, do your thing. I like applying myself to my life. I have applied myself to others goals when I had someone I wanted to be with. Go and hang with people while doing what you all, both, like. We do not have to be miserable to be together. We should be happy to be together. Life is good!

Get stronger!                                                                                  docgym@live.com
