free-weights-vs.-machines

Machines vs. free weights

Most understand that machines and free weights have a place in a training scheme. We must dissect the movements and prioritize the weak links. Sometimes we use free weights and sometimes we use a machine to this end. This is training and corrective exercise is a relatively new term although it has always been practiced by the elite in training. Progressively, I love to see something once considered experimental become the norm. It shows we are educating the general populace. I like helping people.

In a practical sense free weights are superior to machines. Life has many demanding parts. Physically we must be capable on our feet. Unless we live in a chair we must train on our feet. Find an article written by Dr. Fred Hatfied, Stand and Deliver, he knows training better than any involved today.

Machines have a place also. When we are sculpting ourselves we can use the machinery to develop the stronger parts of a movement once the weaker parts have fatigued. This is another example of appearance based training being dangerous. Most want to sculpt their bodies. Make certain you are training the greater movements while sculpting.

Using free weights and machines is one of the many benefits we have gained since the industrial revolution. Weight training machinery existed at least as early as the 17th century. Hire a good coach, not just a friend, and dissect each full body movement until you can prioritize the weak links in your chain. Training is developmental not just cosmetic.

A good coach, a former or current athlete, is a great addition at this time if one has not studied Kinesiology. Take the advice of this coach. Make certain they understand most of communication is listening.
